ABSTRACT

This study reports the adsorption of wheat protein isolate (WPI) from aqueous solution on Hallosyte nanotubes (HNT). Batch adsorption experiments were carried out as a function of pH, contact time and initial concentration of the adsorb at solution at room temperature. Kinetic data were best fit to a pseudo second order rate equation for the adsorption of WPI on HNTs. The equilibrium data better fit the Freundlich isotherm model for the adsorption of WPI on HNTs. A modified Freundlich equation was proposed, and compared with Freundlich equation. Due to the high porosity, the HNTs are accessible for protein adsorption. The material reveals high adsorption capacities for WPI at pH 7.4 and concentration of 1000 mg, where by proteins are mainly adsorbed via electrostatic interactions.
