Abstract
A new series of α, β-unsaturated ketones were synthesized by the reaction of different aromatic aldehydes with 6-methoxy-2,
3-dihydro-4H-chromen-2-one. The newly synthesized chalcone derivatives 3a–h were characterized by their 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR,
IR, and mass spectral data and were further screened for their antibacterial activity. All the synthesized compounds showed good
activities in comparison with standard drug nitrofurazone. Among the tested compounds, 3a, 3c, 3e, and 3h showed excellent
activity against all four bacterial strains.
