Abstract

The plant is rich in flavonoids such as rhein, phenolics (fistulic acid), lignans, glycosides, anthracene derivatives, and catechins, obtained from various parts. These phytochemicals possess pharmacological effects such as hepatoprotective, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antipyretic, antitussive activity, antiulcer, central nervous system activity, hypo-lipidaemia, larvicidal/ovicidal, laxative, leukotriene inhibition, anticancer, antidiabetic, antiepileptic, antifeedant, antifertility, urease inhibition, wound healing, antimicrobial, antifungal antibacterial, and antiviral activities. The present review has focused on the discussion of bioactives of the Cassia fistula (CF) and the bioeffects on the medicinal claims. Our findings provided evidence that CF aqueous and organic solvent extracts of these tested plants contain medicinally important bioactive compounds and it justifies their use in the
traditional medicines for the treatment of different diseases.
