Abstract

Aflatoxin contamination of food and feed have global significance. Eventhough it is more than 50 years of
aflatoxin discovery and inspite of tremendous research on various aspects of aflatoxins, it continues to be a
serious challenge and health hazard to man. The adverse toxicological effects remain to be same and varies from
acute effects to cancer depending on exposure. More research is necessary in developing protection strategies ,
biomarkers and novel technologies to combat aflatoxin contamination, keeping in mind its importance on human
and animal health and in international trade.
