Abstract
Natural ecosystems are harmed by mining operations because they generate many tailings from mines. Mine tailings are left
untreated in open ponds or dams in search of valuable metals such as iron ore are extracted. In order to lessen the detrimental
effects on the ecosystem, tailings must be rehabilitated. This review compares the cost, reliability, and durability of current
physical, chemical, and phytoremediation techniques for the rehabilitation of mine tailings. The discussion led to the conclusion
that while amendment-assisted phytoremediation has received a lot of attention, selecting the appropriate phytoremediators is
the most crucial step in the process. Further research is required to determine whether this strategy is suitable for the precise
situation.
