Abstract
Two new azomethine compounds, L1 and L2, were prepared by the condensation of 5-fluoro-2-hydroxyacetophenone with
furan-2-carbohydrazide and thiophene-2-carbohydrazide, respectively. The structure of the synthesized compounds (ligands)
was characterized by different techniques such as CHN(S) analysis, UV-Vis. spectrophotometry, FT-IR spectroscopy, 1H-NMR
spectroscopy, and mass spectrometry. Formation of binary complexes of the divalent transition metal ions Co (II), Ni (II) and Cu
(II) with Schiff bases was investigated by the conventional potentiometric technique. The proton-ligand stability constant (pK1H)
of the Schiff bases and the metal-ligand stability constant (log K1) of their complexes with Co (II), Ni (II), and Cu (II) have been
extensively determined through Calvin-Bjerrum pH-metric titration technique.
